This is the Program Disk for FLODRAW 2.25
Last Updated: April, 1992
This Program Disk contains all the files you need to run the FLODRAW
tutorial, review the sample diagrams, and draw your own flowchart
diagrams. The Library Disk is a separate disk and contains additional
libraries, utilities, and documentation.
The Library Disk contains an INSTALL utility to help you install FLODRAW
on your system. But you can run the tutorial and review the sample
diagrams using this disk before you install FLODRAW.
This disk also contains a file called UPDATE.DOC that lists the major
features that have been added to FLODRAW since the release of version 1.2.
********************************************
* -i- Introduction *
********************************************
The purpose of this READ_ME file is to describe FLODRAW and to help you
get started using FLODRAW. The best way to start using FLODRAW is to take
the FLODRAW tutorial and then browse through the sample diagrams.
The FLODRAW tutorial was designed to teach you to use the basic functions
in FLODRAW without requiring that you read a manual. If you have questions,
FLODRAW has a help system that explains most of the available functions.

* -1- Shareware *
********************************************
FLODRAW is marketed as "Shareware". This method of software marketing has
become increasingly popular in the last few years. It has helped provide
the personal computer community with many quality software programs at
very reasonable prices.
What is Shareware?
Shareware is software you try before you buy. Unlike commercial software,
the author encourages you to copy the program freely and share it with
others. Because sharing software is encouraged, you can get copies of
programs from friends or business associates, computer club and user group
libraries, bulletin board systems, and shareware vendors.
This unique distribution network benefits the author by providing a low
cost method of marketing the software, a benefit that is passed on to you
in lower prices. But it also benefits you by giving you easy access to a
wide variety of programs that you can try out on your own. It's
successful because this is the full featured working version of the
program, not a demonstration or crippled copy.
You can try the program out in your home or where you work, at your
convenience, at your own pace, and on your own computer system. You
decide whether the program suits your needs or not. If you decide to keep
the program, you are trusted to send a registration payment to the author.
Your payment also shows that you support the concept of shareware
software. Your support will insure that this concept will continue to
grow as a low cost alternative to expensive commercial software.
ASP Membership
George Freund, the author of FLODRAW, is a member of the Association of
Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a shareware-related
problem with an ASP member by contacting the member directly, ASP may be
able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help you resolve a dispute or problem
with an ASP member, but does not provide technical support for member's
products. Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon,
MI 49442-9427 or send a Compuserve message via Compuserve Mail to ASP
Ombudsman 70007,3536.

* -2- Registration *
********************************************
You can register by sending a registration form with payment to the
author. There are two ways to register.
1. The registration package entitles you to a copy of the current
version of the Program Disk, Library Disk, and Symbols Disk, and
a copy of the printed FLODRAW User Manual.
2. Registration only does not include disks or a printed manual.
All registered users receive the following benefits.
1. Notification of program updates.
2. Offers to upgrade at low cost.
3. Technical support by mail.
4. Satisfaction in participating honestly in this unique method
of software marketing.
You can print the registration form using the batch file REGISTER.BAT on
this disk. Put this disk in drive A, and type REGISTER. You can also
print the registration form from the FLODRAW program - see the menu
selection "Registration" on the entry menu.
The Program Disk and Library Disk in the shareware version are the same as
in the registration package. Beginning with version 2.2, the registration
package contains an additional disk called a Symbols Disk. The Symbols
Disk contains all the symbols used in the FLODRAW libraries. This disk
was excluded from the shareware version since it cannot be conveniently
documented on disk. The Symbols Disk is documented in the printed FLODRAW
User Manual. The Symbols Disk allows you to easily add, change, or delete
symbols in any of the FLODRAW libraries by using the FLOLIB utility.
Licensing for Commercial and Government Organizations
Each registered copy of FLODRAW is licensed for use on one computer. If
you will use FLODRAW on more than one computer, you must purchase one copy
for each computer. Please see the multiple copy discounts on the
registration form.
********************************************
* -3- Description of FLODRAW *
********************************************
FLODRAW is a flowchart drawing program that prints full page black and
white diagrams. It will help you draw diagrams like flowcharts, system
diagrams, electrical schematics, and organization charts.
FLODRAW is easy to learn. A menu line prompts you at every screen. And
context sensitive help screens are just a key press away.
Unlike many drawing programs, FLODRAW lets you draw your diagram in TEXT
mode. You can draw symbols and lines as easy as entering text. And
FLODRAW will generate lines or arrows between symbols to help you draw
diagrams like flowcharts. FLODRAW has a DRAW mode for drawing circles and
lines from point to point. And in DRAW mode you can edit any dot on the
diagram.
FLODRAW comes with symbol libraries for flowcharts, electrical schematics,
organization charts, and more. You can design your own symbols, save
them, and combine them into new libraries, or add them to existing
libraries.
FLODRAW documents can be saved, printed, and edited again. All FLODRAW
document files are compressed to take up a minimum amount of space on your
disk. FLODRAW supports the following three formats for printing
documents.
1. Portrait 8.5 x 11 inches
2. Landscape 11 x 8.5 inches (printed sideways on 8.5 x 11)
3. Large landscape 11 x 16 inches (printed on two 8.5 x 11 with
80 column printers) or
11 x 14 inches (printed on 132 column wide
carriage printers).
Portrait and landscape are terms that refer to how a rectangular page is
oriented. Portraits are upright. Landscapes are sideways.

compatible. Some "compatible" PC's may not be compatible

* -6- How to Use the 20 Minute Tutorial *
********************************************
Please take the 20 minute tutorial called DEMO before trying FLODRAW on
your own. Although I've tried to make the program as intuitive as
possible, you'll learn much faster if you let the tutorial guide you
through FLODRAW. The tutorial was designed to show you how to use most
of the editing features in about 20 minutes.
Taking the tutorial is easy.
1. Put the program disk in drive A.
2. At the A> prompt, type FLODRAW DEMO and press Enter.
3. Your computer will load FLODRAW into memory. FLODRAW will
read the option file, the special character file, and the library
file, and then read the DEMO file. FLODRAW will display the DEMO
file on the edit screen. Then just follow the instructions that
appear on the screen.
********************************************
* -7- Review the Sample Diagrams *
********************************************
After you've taken the DEMO tutorial, use FLODRAW to browse through the
sample diagrams. If you didn't look at the sample diagrams after
finishing DEMO you can look at them now. Here's the procedure to load
the first sample diagram with some hints on how to look at them.
1. Put the program disk in drive A.
2. At the A> prompt, type FLODRAW SAMPLE.01 and press Enter.
3. When the sample diagram appears on your screen, press F2 to
get an overall view of the diagram. Then press ESC to return
to the diagram and page through the diagram using the PgUp,
PgDn, gray plus, and gray minus keys. If your keyboard doesn't
have the gray plus and minus keys, use Alt-L and Alt-R.
4. While you're viewing the diagram, press Alt-H to get familiar
with the Help system. When the Help Screen appears, press H to
get the Help Menu. At the Help Menu, type '05' to get the Help
Screen for the AUTO function. After reviewing the Help Screen
press ESC to return to the diagram.
5. When you're ready to go to the next sample, press Alt-N. You
can page back and forth between the pages of a multiple page
diagram by using the Alt-N and Alt-P keys.
6. When you're ready to exit FLODRAW, press ESC to return to the
entry menu. Then type 'X' to exit. Reply 'Y' to the "Are You
Sure" prompt.
